Creating this Dichroic New York Skyline was to honor the memory of the Twin Towers. Forgetting will never happen. Now the skyline has changed, but the images in the background are memories of what was.
Three stages created Dichroic New York Skyline. Choosing black background glass recreates the darkness that fell upon us all. Subsequently, individual parts were placed to tell the onlookers a story. Making all of the buildings from very bright dichroic glass offsets the “blackness” of the shadows of the towers behind them. Finally, returning the panel to the kiln at a lower temperature made them stand out. The third firing made the shape.
For many of us, memories abound.
A handmade black aluminum frame completes the process.
