This wall art of “A Father and His Girls Going Home” is a fused glass panel. Two kiln firings of up to 1500 degrees each created it. The first firing allowed the background to become very smooth and shiny. The second firing, done at a lesser temperature, allows the figures to adhere to the glass and maintain their 3 dimensionality but become one with the background. The shiny glittering embellishments are dichroic glass which both reflects and refracts the light so that it appears to change color and glitters.
The background glass is made up of two separate colors of special art glass that together allow it to look like a sunrise or sunset when it is backlit. When there is no backlighting it is a lovely, bright scene of a father taking his girls with him for a special occasion as they are carrying gifts of flowers and balloons to the house in the distance. The little white cat is watching them go.
